Property Description
29.33 acres of mixed trees with over 2000 feet on Little River and about 990 feet on Friendly Lane. Mountain laurel, rhododendrons, wild azaleas and mature hardwoods and pines. This acreage can be used for a homesite..drilled well, septic and power are in place on the ridge. Homesite has winter view of the mountains, with some trimming you could have a year round view. There is also a building site at the river. Located close to Keowee, Jocassee, Whitewater Falls. Short drive to Duke Energy site. A prior owner wrote about the property in detail: 29.33 acres of land contains the widest variety of trees, shrubs and wildflowers that I have seen anywhere in the Upstate on a tract this size. Not even in the National Forest or parks have I seen this great a variety in this size area. The high ridges, springs, streams, bog bottoms and river offer a wealth of small environmental enclaves. The native Azaleas have thrilled my soul even during bad bloom years. The Rhododendron Nudiflorum are the first to appear in their show of pinks and white and some pure white. The Rhododendrom Canescens next show their pinks and whites and some purples and violets. The Oconee Azaleas bloom in orange, yellow, red and combinations of these. The magnificient Rhododendron Calendulaceum (or Flame Azalea) has the most color variations: Clear translucent yellow, darker yellow, orange, pink, deep red, cream and violet. Most of the colors ar just one color but some are streaked or flecked with one or more colors. I have measured many individual funnels that exceed 2.5 inches. Some of the Azaleas are obviously very old. I believe tha the old Azaleas and many other plants remain because the land was selectively logged and not clear-cut. There are large Poplars, Hickories and Oaks in the northeast corner that exceed one hundred years of age. Along the river a few yellow pines of the same age oppose the average tree age of fifty to seventy five years. Pink Lady Slippers less than 50 yards fromteh well grow the largest leaves I have ever seen while those scattered across the rest of the land appear more normal size. Oconee Bells occur along 2 of the branches in small colonies. Micheaux Lilies are scattered throughout all the drier woodlands. I am not a trained botanist but it becomes apparent to me that I could write a book about what my sujective enjoyment of the land has enticed me to learn.
